Retired captain defies police by protesting in uniform

On Monday, Ray Lewis, 60, joined Occupy Philadelphia’s Day of Action on the lawn of independence Hall for, aimed at promoting freedom of speech.
Lewis was arrested last November in New York’s Zuccotti Park. He had received a letter from Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, who accused Lewis of being “disrespectful,” for wearing his uniform.
"I have not violated any law," Lewis said, adding "I spent my entire career devoted to law enforcement, and I was proud of that.”
Lewis who served for 24 years, further defended his actions by saying that he always informs the public that he is a retired captain.
The protest campaign owes its inspiration to the Occupy Wall Street (OWS) movement, which began when a group of demonstrators gathered in New York's financial district on September 17 to protest, among other things, against the excessive influence of big corporations on the US policies and the high-level corruption in the country.
According to the website occupyarrests.com, with the exception of the latest arrests, at least 6,319 Occupy protesters have been apprehended since the emergence of the movement.
