Syrian Security Member Killed by Armed Gang

Syrian sources have reported that a security member has been martyred and 6 others were injured during an ambush by an armed terrorist gang against a joint army and law-enforcement forces patrol in Douma district in Damascus countryside.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency, members of the patrol fought with the armed gang and killed 2 members and wounded and arrested others. They also confiscated the group's automatic guns and ammunition. "Some of the group members were wearing clothes similar to the army uniform."

Warrant Officer, Peters Halaweh, said they were on a mission when the gang attacked them and opened fire, using Kalashnikovs and Pump action guns.

Thursday's attack against Syrian security forces happened as Lebanon announced it has arrested three people who were trying to smuggle weapons into Syria.

The Syrian government has always said the killings that happened during the recent unrest have been done by armed gangs and not the security forces.
