Iran: Neighbors Concerned about NATO-Turkey Radar System
According to Iran's Foreign Minister, the 'early warning' radar system launched by NATO in Turkey raises neighbor countries' concern.
"The issue of the radar system, which will be set up in Turkey, has caused concern for Iran and its neighboring states,” Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said.
“We do not perceive such a system necessary under the current circumstances, when [we] are witnessing [certain] developments in the region, and we consider such a decision questionable,” Salehi said on Saturday in the capital, Tehran, Press TV reported.
The deployment of the radar system is in accordance with NATO's 'New Strategic Concept' adopted by the alliance's leaders in a summit in Lisbon, Portugal, last year, Turkey's Foreign Ministry says. While Salehi advised Turkish authorities to “deliberate on this decision”, Russia has also warned that Western military alliance try to advance eastward via this plan, All Voices reported.
This collaboration quickens the deployment of "the European segment of a global US missile defense system”, said Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergey Lavrov.
