Al-Qaede Uses Iraq as a Land Bridge to Syria

According to a high-ranking Iraqi official, armed members of Al-Qaede enter Syria from Iraqi borders to launch operations against Syria.

Terrorist members of Al-Qaede come to Syria through Iraqi borders to perform deadly operations against Syrian security forces, SANA reported.

According to the Russian news agency, RIA Novosti‏, Iraqi officials have arrested dozens of al-Qaeda members attempting to enter Syria in the last two months. Three busses and a truck loaded with explosive means bound for Syria were also detained.  The armed members came from Ninawa governorate in the north and al-Anbar in the west. These two regions became a connecting way for transporting weapons from Iraq.

Syria has been witnessing anti-government protests since mid-March. According to the government, armed gangs and foreign elements are responsible for unrest in the country. While Syrian government tries to push reforms forward, organized attacks by armed gangs disturb the process.
