Libya Refuses to Extradite any Libyan Citizens

 The Libyan National Transitional Council (NTC) refused to extradite Libyan citizen, suspected of killing British police officer and Lockerbie bomber.

The justice minister of the Libyan National Transitional Council (NTC) said on Friday that new Libyan government would "not give any Libyan citizen to the west". It was the Libya's response to to British Foreign Secretary William Hague's calls for the extradition of the Lockerbie bomber and the suspect for the murder of police officer Yvonne Fletcher, Guardian reported.

 According to the Guardian, Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, the man convicted of the Lockerbie airline bombingin 1988 was released in 2009 on compassionate grounds. "Al-Megrahi has already been judged once and he will not be judged again," Mohammed al-Alagi told journalists in Tripoli. "We do not hand over Libyan citizens, Gaddafi does."

The British government demanded the leaders of the rebel forces to render the suspect for the murder of Fletcher but NTC officials refused British government's calls for the extradition of Libyan citizens. Moreover, Hassan al-Sagheer, a member of the NTC, said “Libya has never extradited or handed over its citizens to a foreign country. We shall continue with this principle”, Press TV reported.
