NATO to Seize Libya's Oil Reserves

At a time when Libyan fighters have almost taken control of Capital Tripoli, Western nations, especially NATO countries want to have a secure access to the vast oil wealth of North African country.

NATO’s airstrikes which were allegedly in support of the fighters left thousands of civilians dead and wounded, however that was not all.

Before the revolution brokeout in February, Libya exported 1.3 million barrels of oil a day. While that is less than 2 percent of world supplies, only a few other countries can provide equivalent amounts of the crude oil that many industries around the world need. The restart of Libyan production would decrease oil prices in Europe, and US. Westerners want to make sure their companies are in prime position to pump Libyan crude oil.  Foreign Minister Franco Frattini of Italy said this week that the Italian oil company Eni “will have a number one role in the future’’ in Libya, Boston reported.

"To the realists of the world, people do not ignore the fact the Libya is vast with oil wells and is an excellent geographical position in the region. It has high grade crude oil," Anas al-Gomati, a political analyst told Press TV. "It's obvious for the European and Western powers to be on the right side of whoever comes in control of Libya: democratic or nondemocratic," he added.
