US, French Embassies Face Angry Syrian  Protesters

Supporters of Syrian government have broken into the US Embassy in Damascus on Monday, raising a Syrian flag and scrawling graffiti on the walls.

The protesters called the US ambassador a "dog", expressing their anger over his last week visit to the city of Hama that is a stronghold for the opposition, the Associated Press reported.

French embassy also faced angry protesters who were criticizing the country's envoy over a visit to the same city. The security guards in French Embassy fired in the air to disperse the people.

"God, Syria and Bashar. The nation that gave birth to Bashar Assad will not kneel," read graffiti written outside the embassy.

An eyewitness to the events told Associated Press that the guards beat the protesters with clubs, injuring three people.

"Syrians demonstrated peacefully in front of the French embassy but they were faced with bullets," said Hiam al-Hassan, a witness.

Al-Hassan said about 300 people had gathered in front of the French Embassy while hundreds others gathered at the American Embassy.
